Hi! I am  Aiza Yasir, Media Studies student and today was my first class regarding the Advanced Portfolio.

Last year, for the foundation portfolio, our entire focus was on the construction of a Music Magazine. This year, however, there'll be more extensive work and hence today we were given the basic idea of what we'll be doing in the months to come.

We will be working in teams this year, therefore, I decided to work with Mahnoor Khalid. (http://mahnoor-khalid.blogspot.com)

Briefing of entire work regarding this year's portfolio was done and out of options of Short film, Music video, Documentary, Ad Making e.t.c one option was supposed to be chosen to work on.
Mahnoor and I opted for short-film.

Short-film, I believe, will open the gate for us to be more creative as we can work on any genre that appeals to us. Also because we will be coming up with and writing the whole story line ourselves- even the script. Secondly, it will enable us to analyse different situations and how they are portrayed through Media. 

The reason for pairing up with Mahnoor is that I believe her analytical skills, which in my opinion play a very major role in Media Studies, are somewhat better and stronger than mine. Hence, parts of the project and tasks which would require strong analysis  I could get an edge in that by teaming up with her. Secondly, she understands the way my mind works, the way I think, hence, conveying my ideas and everything to her becomes rather easy  for me.

The significance of Research and Planning was highlighted once again.

A very essential thing I grasped today was that at the end of the day it's not all about just the product that we've created or about how fancy or shiny the end product may look, but it's about the step-by-step process we have to go through in order to create the final product. It's about what we learn on our way to create that one product.
